Lorna Walker

Managing Director, Lorna Walker Consulting Ltd and Cabe Commissioner

Managing Director, Lorna Walker Consulting Ltd, and Cabe Commissioner

Lorna Walker is managing director of Lorna Walker Consulting Ltd, which concentrates on strategic and practical design consultations in sustainable development and urban regeneration. A director at Ove Arup and Partners from 1989 to 2004, she is a recognised authority in the fields of sustainable development, urban regeneration, water quality and waste treatment.

Lorna was a member of Lord Rogers' urban task force, a member of the sustainable development committee of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, FIDIC, and a lead expert on the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills foresight programme on sustainable energy management in the built environment.

She is also a Royal Academy of Engineering visiting professor in engineering design for sustainable development at the University of Sheffield, and was recently recognised for her contribution to engineering and sustainable development with an honorary Doctorate of Engineering degree.

Nick Johnson

Nick Johnson, Deputy Chief Executive, Urban Splash and Cabe Commissioner

Nick Johnson is deputy chief executive of Manchester-based urban regeneration company Urban Splash. Over the last 10 years he has been responsible for Britannia Basin in Castlefield, Manchester, and he leads the project team for New Islington, Manchester's Millennium Community, and Park Hill, Sheffield, Europe's largest listed building.

Prior to joining Urban Splash, Nick founded Johnson Urban Development Consultants, where he advised private and public sector clients on a variety of regeneration projects. He assisted Urban Splash on the grant funding of Concert Square, Liverpool, and became a director in 1994.

Nick is a distinguished Visiting Fellow of Architecture at Yale University and chair of Marketing Manchester.

An experienced Regional Development Agency Head of Service for Sustainable Development, covering regional energy, construction, environmental assets and infrastructure, transport, housing, planning, waste, resource efficiency and environmental business support. Budget management - £35 million and personnel management of a team of 30 staff.

Additional experience as an environmental scientist, health and safety professional, facilitator and sustainability practitioner. Combined skills of construction programmes, consultancy, research, business development, commercial awareness, presentation ability, training provision and stakeholder facilitation.

Extensive network amongst experienced sustainability practitioners, local authority, regional development agency and corporate leaders.

Teresa Hitchcock

Teresa Hitchcock, Partner, DLA Piper UK LLP

Teresa Hitchcock is a partner in DLA Piper UK LLP and heads the firm's national Safety Health and Environment team within its Litigation and Regulatory Group. She is also a Board Member of Sheffield First for Environment, the partnership between local government and business charged with delivering that city's strategy for sustainable development.

Teresa was a senior environmental regulator in Local Government before qualifying as a solicitor. Her practice has long involved her in matters relating to Climate Change, and she has extensive experience in negotiating agreements for emissions reduction projects and for the sale of carbon credits. She has also spoken at a number of conferences, both in the UK and overseas, on related topics.

Gary McGrogan

Gary McGrogan is currently Director of Environment and Regulatory Services at Sheffield City Council. He has worked for Sheffield Council for 16 years and at Director level for the past 10 years. He manages a range of services including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Waste Management and Building Control and leads on the city's Environmental Excellence Strategy. He is also Director of Sheffield First Environment, a high level strategic environmental partnership across the City as well as being a member of the city's health partnership. He has represented Sheffield City Council on the Eurocities Environment Forum for the past 13 years and chairs the Eurocities Environment and Health Working Group. He has worked with other European cities on improving air quality, waste management and greening local business.

John Mothersole

John Mothersole, Interim Chief Executive, Sheffield City Council

John Mothersole is the Interim Chief Executive of Sheffield City Council, stepping up from his previous role as Executive Director of Development, Environment and Leisure.

John joined Sheffield City Council in 1998 and since then has been directly and closely involved in much of the regeneration of the City Centre. His remit has also covered the City's green heritage, the sustainability agenda, transport, culture and planning.

Prior to coming to Sheffield he was a Director with the London Borough of Camden for seven years, and before that was the Arts Development Officer for Newcastle Upon Tyne.

In his current role, John is Deputy Chair of the Sheffield First Partnership, Company Secretary to Creative Sheffield and a member of the Sheffield City Region Executive Group. He also represents City Regions on the Northern Way Management Group and is a member of Core Cities Chief Executives' Group.
